The statement by Ali Akbar Velayati, entitled “Palestine, the Axis of Islamic Unity” was read at the World Supreme Council of Islamic Awakening meeting held in Tehran on Tuesday, September 9th.
Verayati denounced the actions of the Israeli regime as not just military wars, but a systematic, targeted, malicious campaign of “a future of humanity, civilisation and a resilient nation.”
He pointed to the Gaza blockade, blocking water, electricity, medicines and food, bombing hospitals, schools, mosques, UN shelters, and destruction of critical infrastructure and homes. He described the Israeli campaign as “a planned and progressive genocide, a form of ethnic cleansing under the cover of military operations, in a blatant violation of all human rights principles and the UN Charter.”
Verayati said the Zionist regime, which relies on Western support, committed atrocities such as burying live children, targeting pregnant women, removing Palestinian elites and destroying critical infrastructure.
He emphasizes that denunciation alone is not enough, and calls for immediate and practical measures such as:
– International pressure to resume humanitarian passages to Gaza, end the lockdown and allow access to basic needs.
– Ensures the establishment of special international courts to test war criminals, and the imposition of comprehensive economic, political and military sanctions on the Israeli regime, and fair media coverage of the Gaza tragedy.
– Uncensored reports by human rights groups and swift action by the International Criminal Court on the crimes of Israeli leaders.
-At the complete halt of international cooperation between Islamic countries and the Israeli regime, he fully supports the legitimate resistance of the Palestinians, which he described as the only remaining path to the profession.
Verayati emphasized the complete halt of Israel’s crimes and the free return of Palestinian refugees to their homes, until the world’s awakened conscience stood with Gaza. He also warned that if today’s silence continues, tomorrow will lead to even greater catastrophes.
