Velayati made the comments on Saturday during a meeting with Syed Mohsen Hakim, senior advisor to Syed Ammar Hakim and vice-chairman of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, during a visit to Tehran.
Velayati, a senior adviser to Islamic Revolution leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said during the meeting that the turnout of Iraqis in recent elections was a “great achievement” and a sign of the country’s “political maturity.”
He described Iran-Iraq relations as “based on solid foundations and deep roots.”
Mohsen Hakim pointed to the situation in Iraq after the election and said the high turnout was an important success despite the intrigues drawn by the enemy. He also appreciated Mr. Velayati’s message on the election, which was released immediately after the polls closed.
In his message on November 13, Mr. Velayati congratulated Iraq on the successful conduct of parliamentary elections and added that a bright and prosperous future awaits Iran-Iraq bilateral cooperation.
Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Monday announced the final results of the country’s sixth parliamentary elections, confirming a significant victory for the Coordination Framework (CF), a coalition of predominantly Shiite parties.
