Washington deployed warships in international waters off the coast of Venezuela.
“It’s an undeclared war, and we can already see how people were executed in the Caribbean, whether they were drug traffickers or not. They were executed without the right to defense,” said Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez, who attended military exercises in response to the US “military threat.”
His remarks came hours before President Donald Trump announced another military attack on the boat. Three more “narcotelorists” were killed, bringing the total number of deaths in the last few weeks to 17.
He didn’t say when the attacks happened, and only specified that it occurred not only in the Caribbean, but also at the responsible US Southern Command, including Central and South America.
Trump details two such strikes around this week, and he said the US “knock-off” the third drug boat from Venezuela but did not provide any additional information about the strike.
Strikes encourage debate about the legality of killings, and drug trafficking itself is not a capital offence under US law.
Washington also has not provided specific details to support the allegations that the targeted boat was indeed a human trafficking drug.
