“The humanitarian cargo for the Cuban people affected by Hurricane Melissa includes more than 5,000 tons of food, medicine, household goods and even children’s toys,” Peña said in an interview with Venezolana de Television channel.
He stressed that the humanitarian supplies will be delivered by ships belonging to ALBA and were headed to Cuba on the orders of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Mr. Pena added that aid to Cuba is a demonstration of Venezuela’s peace, cooperation among its peoples, and unwavering solidarity with the island.
On October 30, Venezuela delivered 26 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba via Conviasa Airlines.
At the end of October, Hurricane Melissa, the fifth in the highest category, hit some Caribbean island nations. Jamaica and Haiti were the worst hit by the natural disaster, with more than 30 and 40 victims respectively.
