In comments at a meeting of the Special Committee on Special Projects held on Saturday, Mohammad Reza Aref said that over the past decades, Iran has repeatedly and pragmatically demonstrated that it pursues only peaceful uses of its nuclear weapons.
He also said that Western countries had acted inappropriately against Iran’s peace plan, and pointed out that Iran’s advances in nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceuticals were an appropriate response to these misjudgments.
Referring to Iran’s plan to develop a 20,000 megawatt nuclear power plant, Aref said that Western hostility has exposed Iran’s nuclear activities to political and biased treatment.
He said the world recognized that Iran intends to benefit from all the peaceful benefits of nuclear energy and never pursues non-peaceful uses, stressing that it has “no place in the doctrine of the Islamic Republic.”
The Vice President said expanding nuclear power generation to 20,000 megawatts by 2041 is an undeniable national need.
Nuclear fuel is one of the cleanest and safest energy sources, Aref said, and Iran needs to move forward with its plans, especially in the power plants it is developing with domestic capabilities.
