Thousands of Gaza babies could die within days without immediate food and medical assistance, the UN warns.
The United Nations said Tuesday that it was granted permission to send “about 100” aid trucks to Gaza following the 11-week lockdown.
Tom Fletcher, the UN’s humanitarian chief, warned that 14,000 Gaza babies could die within 48 hours if they had not received emergency nutrition and care. He said five trucks came in on Monday, he said the situation was “devastating” and that current aid is flowing as “a decline in the ocean.”
“This is not the food Hamas is trying to steal,” he told the BBC. “We risk looting and are hit by Israeli attacks. We are blocked and we take a huge risk, but for now there is no better idea than putting that baby food in a mom who can’t afford her child.”
