Washington has already imposed target sanctions on several court prosecutors and judges, but naming the court itself on the sanction list is a major escalation.
Six sources with knowledge of the issue said they were discussing sensitive diplomatic issues that have not been publicly announced on condition of anonymity, Reuters said.
Sources said court officials had already held an urgent internal meeting to discuss the impact of potential blanket sanctions. Two other sources said meetings were also held on diplomats from the court’s member states.
US officials discussing sensitive issues on condition of anonymity have confirmed that sanctions across the entity have been measured, but did not elaborate on the timing of possible movements.
