The US Navy lost another fighter in the Red Sea, marking the second incident in just over a week with the F/A-18 Super Hornet from USS Harry S. Truman, including a third loss since Washington strengthened Yemen’s operations against Ansalara.
The aircraft reportedly jumped into the sea after experiencing arrest breakdown while trying to land at the carrier, kicking out both pilot systems officers and weapons system officers. CNN first reported the incident on Tuesday, citing multiple sources familiar with the issue.
The incident remains unknown whether the two events are connected, but it is reportedly happened on the same day that Ansala “takes a shot” with Truman. A formal investigation is underway, but the US Navy has not yet officially confirmed the details.
Last week, another F/A-18 fell from Truman during evasive operations to avoid a missile fire in Yemen. In another incident last December, the F/A-18 was accidentally shot down by the USS Gettysburg, a guided missile cruiser, shortly after it was released by Truman for an assault on an Anasarara target in Yemen.
