Tehran – The reported plan for the US to sell billions of dollars with additional weapons to Israel clearly shows that Washington is encouraging Tel Aviv to advance its “Great Israel” vision.
US and Israeli media have reported that the White House has informed Congress of plans to sell nearly $6 billion in weapons to Israel.
US President Donald Trump’s administration has already approved around $12 billion in major military aid to Israel this year. This new package of military aid comes amid the growing isolation of Israel over warmth in West Asia.
Israel faces global backlash with airstrikes in Qatar earlier this month. On September 9, Israel attacked a residential area in Doha, where Hamas leaders met to discuss US proposals for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Hamas leaders survived the attack, but five low-rank Hamas members and Qatari security officials were killed, sparking criticism that spread even from Israel’s major Western allies, Britain, Germany and France.
Israel is also under pressure on ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip. A recent UN Commission on Inquiry said Israel committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Wall Street Journal has revealed a US plan for $6 billion in new arms sales to Israel, but reported arms sales show that the Trump administration is turning a blind eye to calls to stop Israeli warmth targeting Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Reports suggest that Turkey fears Israeli agents potentially target Hamas members within the border.
Israel’s ongoing military attacks are combined with US military support, indicating that the Trump administration is helping Tel Aviv promote its vision of “a greater Israel.” Last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly supported the vision and proposed plans to expand Israeli borders to Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Former President Joe Biden’s administration suspended the shipment of a 2,000-pound bomb to Israel in May last year over concerns about civilian casualties.
But Trump lifted that hold when he took office in January. Nevertheless, Biden’s suspension was not due to sympathy for the Palestinians as the Palestinians approved additional military aid. For example, the State Department notified Congress in January of Israel and a $8 billion proposed arms deal. The suspension was a political gesture aimed at Palestinians amid protests in US cities over American accomplices in the Israeli genocide of Gaza.
Trump and Biden are pursuing the same strategy against Israel, fully supporting Tel Aviv politically and militarily, but using different tactics. Anti-war protesters branded Biden’s “Genocide Joe” in support of Israel, but Trump was named “fascist” and “racist” during his recent protest in London.
Regardless of who is in the White House, the US is working to maintain Israeli war machinery. The latest report on the Trump administration’s military aid to Israel had planned to rebuild the Middle East according to its own vision, as well as the US support for Israel’s dangerous local ambitions.
