TEHRAN – Iranian naval commander Admiral Shalam Irani said that Western Asian countries can handle their safety and urged outsiders to reconsider their involvement in the region.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, he emphasized that the countries in the region are not as vulnerable as they once were and have the means to protect themselves. “The region is no longer the old one, and the country is equipped to ensure their security. Therefore, the enemy must change its policies and respect the regional countries,” the commander emphasized.
Admiral Irani also argued that Iran refused to be isolated and would operate within an international legal framework. “The actions of Iranians, particularly in the current regional context, are consistent with international law,” he noted.
“Regional instability will harm the global economy,” Admiral Irabani said, adding that Iran is providing expertise to regional countries in West Asia.
The statement comes as Iran, Russia and China, along with observers from several other countries, enveloped a joint maritime movement called the “Maritime Security Belt 2025” in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday.
In a related statement on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi congratulated Admiral Irani on the successful execution of the exercise, highlighting the strength of the navy and international control.
The diplomat said the training, which begins on March 10, demonstrated the navy’s critical attitude and global operational capabilities. He also emphasized the importance of assertive presence in vast marine regions for maritime security and development. “Iran has an unwavering resolve to maintain and strengthen the security of the strategic and sensitive Persian Gulf region. These exercises reflected that resolve,” Aragut pointed out.
