Tehran – The Western powers launched a calculated and fascinating attack targeting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as global rage escalates to force Israel’s continued military assault and starving in the besieged enclave.
Massive hunger is spreading rapidly throughout Gaza under Israeli suffocating lockdowns. Israeli military continues to kill Palestinian civilians, including those desperately seeking humanitarian food aid. Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians in the war with Gaza.
On Tuesday, Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesman for the UN Human Rights Office, told AFP that more than 1,000 Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces and were trying to get food aid alone in late May.
Gaza’s health ministry reported on Wednesday that the total number of death-hungry people has risen to over 110. Hunger, once used as a tool for ancient wars, has become a modern weapon in Israel’s campaign against the Palestinians.
The violence also extended to the press. The government media office in Gaza confirmed that Israel has killed two more Palestinian journalists, bringing the total number of media workers killed since October 2023 to 231.
Worldwide rage is surged. In New York City, anti-war protesters gathered Tuesday to demand an immediate halt of Israeli bombing and blockade. Their signs read: “Stop Gaza starving now,” “Feed a baby Gaza,” and “Open the boundaries and end the lockdown.” Protests also broke out in Washington, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Europe and beyond, denounced the siege and ended Western accomplices.
Western leaders are being forced to speak out in response to rising public pressure. A joint statement issued by 25 countries, including members of the UK, France, Canada, Australia and the European Union, criticizes Israel’s obstruction of providing aid, calling it a “danger,” “destabilizing,” and a violation of international humanitarian law. They declared that “the Israeli government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to civilians is unacceptable.”
But mere condemnation is pointless in the face of Israel’s intentional campaign of starvation and massacre in Gaza. What is urgently needed is concrete action. The challenges of sanctions, the suspension of arms sales, and the cutting of political support. The Western government, which continues to issue blank statements without taking actual steps to punish Israel’s war crimes, is not on the sidelines. They are enablers. Every time they delay their actions, they deepen their genocide accomplices of the Palestinian people.
