TEHRAN – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has officially registered 13 new Iranian products, according to a senior advisor to the Ministry of Mining, the Ministry of Industry, Iran.
The milestone highlights the growing global awareness of Iran’s diverse cultural and natural assets, Mehdi Mirsalehi told IRNA on Monday.
The newly registered item is a mixture of mineral stones, produce and one traditional handicraft, he said.
Among the most notable are rosewater from Kashan city, urmia grapes and apples and hand-woven carpets from Fars state, he said.
These additions will bring the total number of Iranian products registered with WIPO to 87, he added.
Mirsalehi said the journey to Iran’s international product registration began in 2010.
Since then, he said 31 carpet production areas across the country have been added to the registry, along with a variety of agricultural and mineral products.
WIPO is one of the 15 specialized institutions of the United Nations. It was established to encourage creative works and to protect intellectual property rights globally.
WIPO 2024 Report
The World Intellectual Property Organization publishes the 2024 Global Innovation Index (GII) report, where Iran’s innovation capabilities rank on seven criteria including institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market refinement, business refinement, knowledge and technology output, and creative output.
Iran ranks 133 in agencies around the world. In this category, the countries’ global rankings in business, government effectiveness, rule of law, business environment, entrepreneurship policy, and cultural operational stability were 130, 120, 118, 128, and 85, respectively.
In terms of human capital and research standards, the country ranks 64th. They ranked 93, 109, 67, 66, and 96 in education, education spending, government funding/students, school life expectancy, and student-teacher ratios, respectively.
Iran’s graduates and researchers in higher education, science and engineering, research and development (R&D) are 35, 8, 48, and 47, respectively.
The country’s global ranking in infrastructure is 95. It ranks 5th in total capital formation and 50th in general infrastructure.
Under the global rankings of 17 market refinement standards, Iran is placed at 70, 58, and 19 in startups and scale-ups, domestic industry diversification, domestic market scales, and market capitalization finance.
Iran ranks 110th in terms of business sophistication. Ranked 86 in women employed with advanced degrees, 82 in public research industry joint publications, 121 in university industry R&D collaborations, and percent in research talent, and companies.
