Tehran – Sheena Ansari, head of the Ministry of Environment, said cooperation is the only way to do this, as it is impossible to achieve sustainable development without global cooperation.
“Sustainable development must be a global effort for nations to unite and act to overcome challenges,” the IRNA quoted.
Officials made the remarks while working on the BRICS panel “BRICS and Sustainable Development” held on May 22 on the sidelines of the 11th Nevsky International Ecology Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia.
“In addition, if a country decides individually without coordination with other countries, it not only reduces the impact of efforts, but there is a risk that sustainable development itself will be perceived as a false promise or deceptive slogan,” Ansari emphasized.
The authorities also proposed the joint development of strategic and fundamental programs to guide collective efforts.
She went on to say that sustainable development is its ability to change the way you think. It encourages long-term change and encourages individuals and communities to think about their actions and their impact on the planet. This shift in perspective is much stronger than temporary technical solutions or legal actions.
“Unlike technical or legal solutions that often provide rapid remedies, sustainable development addresses the fundamental causes of environmental, economic and social issues. However, to achieve the importance of sustainable development goals, infrastructure, education, and public awareness. Otherwise, we cannot expect citizens to embrace concepts they have never heard of or learned.”
Officials also detailed the country’s activities to align with sustainable development. “The sustainable development model lays the foundation for the future of harmony with nature and ensuring human health and well-being.”
Today, sustainable development is essential not only to protect the environment, but also to improve the quality of life and create equal opportunities for people in various societies.
To that end, Iran has adopted a variety of measures, including submitting corporate social responsibility (CSR) and providing incentives to businesses complying with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. The initiative demonstrates consistency of Iran with internationally recognized standards for sustainable development, indicating that the country strives to incorporate these principles into its economic and trade procedures, Ansari said.
These measures further enhance environmental sustainability and ensure that the private sector prioritizes sustainable economic growth and social well-being.
