TEHRAN – According to Zahra Behrouz-Azar, Vice President of Women and Housework, women make up 56% of the country’s academic community, with over 60% of staff working in schools and 63% of university students.
One of the main objectives of the current administration is to benefit from the capabilities of both men and women to ensure the progress of the country, the IRNA quoted Behrouz-Azar as saying.
For the first time in the current administration, more than 15 women have been elected to work in the women-related sector, with four women holding top executive positions in the cabinet, and 46 years later, women have been elected government spokespersons, officials say.
Women’s economic empowerment is also one of the key priorities of the current administration. Currently, more than 70% of home-based businesses are owned by women, and managers support them with loans.
Incorporating many women into economic diplomacy and international issues highlighted in the 7th National Development Plan (2023-2027) is one of the administration’s other priorities.
According to Behrouz-Azar, Iranian women account for more than 24% of domestic inventions, compared to the global average of 17%.
“Currently, about 12% of entrepreneurship and startups are founded by women. We hope that the presence of women in entrepreneurship reaches 30% by the end of the current administration,” she pointed out.
Management fulfills the promise of a “woman under management”
The appointment of 70 women in management positions certifies the current administration fulfilling its promise to appoint women in management positions.
“I believe that women’s involvement in their top management and decision-making positions is their right and key to the development of the country.
My goal is to increase the share of women in the country’s management positions based on meritocracy and justice.
I recognize the right to political participation of women and promote the status of women’s issues in the administration,” President Masuud Pezeschkian said during his campaign.
The fact that 70 women have been selected for managerial positions is the first time they have been assigned, indicating that the current administration is trying to create opportunities for women to play roles in managerial positions, ISNA reports.
Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Falzarnesadek, government spokesman Fatemmohajelani, Director of Environment, Sheena Ansari and Vice President of Family Affairs for Women and Family Zafra Bells Azar are four women in the Cabinet.
The first vice president of Mohammad-Reza AREF emphasized that “discrimination between men and women is unacceptable in the governance system, so we must witness the promotion of women’s position in the decision-making system.”
In this regard, women’s appointments were not limited to the Cabinet, with Kowsar Yousefi heading the Central Bank’s Supervisory Board and Zohreh Alipour heading the privatization organization in Iran.
No women were elected governors, but Sudabe Zargamnejad, Samira Hassani, Esmato Mohammad Dost, Batur Mohrim, Jamire Qaei-Pasha and Shadi Fazli were elected as governors of Degoran, Rudbar, Kumam, Savadukue, Degoran, Rudbar and Kumam.
The number of high-ranking women has risen significantly compared to the past and is said to continue to increase in the future.
