Wetlands are essential for humans, other ecosystems, and our climate, and provide important ecosystem services such as flood control and water control. More than 1 billion people around the world depend on wetlands. This is about one in eight people on the earth.
Almost 90 % of the wetlands around the world have deteriorated since the 1700s, losing wetlands three times faster than forests. It is essential to increase national and global awareness of wetlands, reverses rapid losses, and encourages them to protect and recover them.
The wetland conservation project reduces the consumption of irrigation water

A sustainable agricultural method was implemented, and 2,433 farmers were trained. By February 2024, the results showed that the average agricultural production increased by 22.5 %, while the consumption of irrigation water decreased by 27.5 %. In addition, the consumption of chemical fertilizers has decreased by 25-30 %. As a result, the income of each farmer increased 14 %.
The establishment of 26 non -governmental organizations (NGOs) and 181 livelihood support groups, and the implementation of alternative living plans in 44 villages is part of the other results of the project.
