Medical and medical equipment cooperation
In 2024, Iranian and Armenian health officials discussed ways to expand joint activities in areas related to medicine and medical equipment.
Former Food and Drug Administration chief Heydar Mohammadi and Armenian deputy health minister Artak Jumayan met in Tehran on October 2, IRNA reported.
In an important step towards strengthening exchanges, the two countries exchanged lists of essential medicines and medical equipment.
The Armenian Ministry of Health also agreed to facilitate Iran’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union and streamline registration procedures for Iranian medicines and medical devices.
In February, Armenia’s deputy health minister announced its intention to import Iranian medicines and medical equipment.
According to the ISNA news agency, Lena Nanusyan commented on Iran’s remarkable achievements in combating the spread of the coronavirus by taking appropriate measures, and said that Iran’s progress in the health sector is significant.
The Prime Minister made this remark during a meeting with President Mohammadi on the sidelines of the 18th Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission held in Tehran from February 14th to 15th.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed 19 documents and memorandums of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in various fields.
The documents mentioned covered various areas such as trade, maritime transport, food, medicine and customs cooperation.
The prime minister noted that Iranian medicines are world-famous, adding that Armenia has not yet imported them.
Referring to the quality of anticancer drugs produced in Iran, he said, “We are interested in using Iranian cancer drugs in Armenia, and it is possible that some of the drugs needed for the country could be supplied by Iranian manufacturing companies.”
Mr. Nanushan went on to say, “I am happy to sign this agreement to expand cooperation between our countries in the field of medicine and medical devices.”
He further pointed out that importing Iranian medicines would be much easier if they were registered in Eurasia.
Mr. Nanushan also expressed readiness to hold an exhibition of Iranian medical products in Armenia.
