TEHRAN – Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has sought national unity amid rising tensions in the region, while criticizing social media platform X for restricting his accounts and reaffirming his defensive historic commitment rather than an offensive military stance.
In a video message posted online, Zarif announced his participation in a campaign titled “The National Defense.” “We are all on the same boat, which is Iran’s proud ship,” Zarif said.
“This is about Iran. I am calling on all my friends and honorable compatriots to join this campaign. I am safe and proud. Iran for many years.”
Separately, Zarif has issued strong criticism of social media platform X (formerly Twitter). This recently removed the verification badge and placed restrictions on his account. The former top diplomat, who has used the platform since 2009 and has accumulated over 1.6 million followers, denounced the censorship platform, particularly when he was opposed to actions by Israel’s Zionist regime.
“Why did X remove my checkmark, restrict my accounts, and even ban me exactly when the world needs to know all the facts?” Zarif spoke to platform owner Elon Musk and wrote.
In another post, Zarif emphasized that Iran has not launched a war for the past three centuries. “Iran shows incredible resilience in defending itself,” he says, “Iranians defeat invaders, especially invaders.
He concluded by highlighting the strength of Iran’s intellectual and patriotic capital. “We can destroy buildings, but we cannot erase knowledge, especially when we are supported by 90 million dedicated patriots. Iran did not start this war, but we will decide how it will end.”
