Iran’s ambassador and UN permanent representative Amir Saeed Irabani made comments in a letter to the UN chief and the Security Council president on Monday.
“I would like to express deep concern and clear condemnation of recent belligerent statements by senior US administration officials, including the US President, who have tried so hard to justify the US attacks and war crimes against Yemen unlawfully.
At least 53 people have been killed and 101 have been injured after the US’s first attack on Yemen since President Trump took office in January. The US launched massive military strikes in Yemen’s capital Sanaa and several other provinces on Saturday night.
In a statement on Saturday, Trump said the US was “completely accountable” for its support for Yemen’s Ansarrah Resistance. He said support for the movement needs to be “end soon,” and warned that Washington would hold Tehran fully accountable.
Irabani said the anti-Iranian rhetoric of US officials constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.
“This kind of inflammatory rhetoric constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, particularly Article 2(4), and prohibits the use of threats or the use of force against sovereign states,” he said.
He added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly rejects and condemns these reckless and provocative statements.”
Irabani warned that attacks against Iran would have severe consequences and said the US was fully responsible.
He urged the UN Security Council to condemn such an inflammatory statement.
“Iran is urging the Security Council to take a clear and principled stance on condemning such an inflammatory statement and call the United States complying with its obligations under the UN Charter,” Iranian officials said.
“As we have repeatedly emphasized, normalizing the threat of force sets dangerous precedents and poses serious risks to safety and safety.
Iranian diplomats also condemned recent military attacks and the illegal use of force by the US and the UK against Yemen.
Irabani said such actions would seriously violate Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, violate international law and pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has clearly condemned the recent military aggression and illegal use of force by the US and the UK against Yemen,” he said.
“These actions seriously violate Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and violate international law, the UN Charter and related Security Council resolutions, thereby pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability,” Irabani said.
“As a responsible member of the international community, the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently complied with its obligations under international law, supporting maritime security and freedom of navigation,” he said.
He said that Yemeni military operates independently in their decision-making and actions, and that their activities are in favor of Gaza and are carried out in response to violations of the integrity of their own territorial integrity.
This comes when the US claimed to carry out a massive air strike across Yemen on Sunday night. Hours after the Ansarra Resistance Movement warned Yemeni forces would target American aircraft carriers and warships in the region.
On Saturday night, the US was involved in massive military strikes in Yemen’s capital Sanaa and several other states around the country, killing and wounding dozens of people, including women and children.
American and British fighters have launched 47 airstrikes at several sites in Yemen’s capital, the northern regions of Sanaa and Sasada, central Albaida and southwest Damar.
At least 31 people, mostly women and children, were killed in air and naval attacks ordered by Trump.
