Statistics show that Iran produced 3.4 million tonnes (MT) of steel in May, up 4.5% compared to the same period last year.
The output was just 400,000 mts above Germany’s reported production, surpassing Iran’s rankings in May, the report said.
According to the association, Iran’s steel production could have reached a total of 14 million mt, down 5.3% from the same period in 2024.
According to data, global production fell 3.8% year-on-year to 158.8 million MT, while production from January to May also fell 1.3% to 784 million MT.
China, the largest producer, announced over 431 million mt of steel in five months in May, down 1.7% from the same period last year, according to an IRNA report.
India, Japan, the US, South Korea and Turkey said they were second in the global rankings of steel producers in May.
Despite facing acute energy supply and pricing issues, Iran has maintained its position as a major steel producer this year.
