At least 10 people were reportedly killed and 15 more injured after a car explosion near Gate 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort metro station, leading Indian authorities to declare major cities in the country, including Bengaluru, on high alert. The incident has caused widespread concern and prompted the Karnataka Police to beef up security across the state, The Hans India reported.
Following the blasts in Delhi, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Dr MA Saleem has issued an official order directing district superintendents of police (SPs) to increase vigilance at key locations including airports, ports, railway stations, bus terminals, markets and other public spaces.
In Bengaluru, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh directed police officers to step up patrols in particularly sensitive areas and increase surveillance in high-traffic areas. The commissioner also ordered check checks at hotels and lodges, with an emphasis on questioning out-of-state individuals. Further, specific instructions have been issued to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Inspectors of Police to keep a close watch on the city and to intensify night patrolling.
These measures are part of broader efforts to prevent untoward incidents in the wake of the Delhi blasts, as intelligence agencies continue to investigate the cause of the explosions. The report added that police across the state were working with local authorities to maintain peace and ensure the safety of residents.
