TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut held a series of high-level calls with counterparts in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iraq on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties between Iran and the United States in Muscat, regional development, and latest indirect negotiations.
In a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday, both sides reviewed the bilateral relations and the state of ongoing regional changes.
They also exchanged opinions on Muscat’s speech. This marked a new diplomatic track between Tehran and Washington. Araguchi welcomed Turkey’s “constructive and supportive position” on negotiations, and Fidan expressed his support for Ankara’s comprehensive support and continued Muscat dialogue. The minister also addressed the consul issues and issues regarding the Iranian people living in Türkiye.
The first round of indirect Iran-US negotiations took place on April 12th in the capital of Oman. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has announced that the second round will be hosted by Oman again on April 19th, but will take place in a European country.
“After the consultations, it has been agreed that the second round of consultations will be held in the same format on Saturday, April 19th,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.
Meanwhile, Araguchi also spoke with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Fahan. During their exchange, Aragut detailed the Islamic Republic’s views on recent regional and international developments, and described his Saudi counterpart in the course of Iran-US negotiations. He notes that the second round of consultations will be held in Europe, and the Omani Foreign Minister continues his intermediary role. Bin Fahan thanked Araguchi for the update and expressed his hope that the negotiations will have a favorable outcome for both Iran and the wider region.
In another call with Foreign Minister Baleni Abdratif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Araguchi shared Iran’s perspective on regional development and outlined the details of the Muscat negotiations. Al Zayani emphasized the importance of diplomacy in promoting peace, stability and security in the region and the world at large. He welcomed the continuation of consultations and expressed optimism about their potential for constructive results.
Additionally, Aragucci called Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to reiterate his position on Iran’s major regional and international issues, updating him on his latest diplomatic efforts in which U.S. Hussein praised Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, and praised Oman’s benefits for wanting Oman’s benefits.
