Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi has argued that despite external pressure, the country is not shaking its position.
In an interview with Moscow’s RT on Friday, Aragut reaffirmed Iran’s immobility, saying, “We have previously proved that we have not responded to forces, pressures or threats. Instead, we will resist. Perhaps the Americans have tried to resolve it again, but the results of that test are clear.”
The Foreign Minister emphasized that Iran will not compromise on its principles. “We will not sacrifice dignity, honor or national interest under any form of pressure,” he declared.
Regarding military threats, Araguchi expressed confidence in Iran’s defensive capabilities, saying, “It’s unlikely that a military threat will come true. Even Americans know that Iran can fully defend itself. The diplomatic path remains open, but when negotiations become challenging, they are fully prepared for other options.”
Araguchi also explained that ongoing sanctions and that Iran’s economic cooperation is structured to withstand them. “We are not waiting for sanctions to be lifted. Instead, we are expanding relationships despite them. Politically, consultations are close and are in line with many international issues, but there are differences in some areas.”
When he visited Russia prior to negotiations for the second round with the US, Aragut emphasized the importance of Iran’s connection with Russia. “We’re by our friends during difficult times. We’ve done that in the past. Now it’s natural to adjust our position,” he said.
Looking at the situation in Syria, Aragut expressed concern about the growth of Israeli occupation there, saying, “Israel controls greater land than the Gaza Strip, and the occupation continues to expand.”
Regarding Iran and Russia’s shared stance on Syria, he said:
Finally, Araguchi dismissed the notion that Israel could launch an attack on Iran, saying, “Israel had no ability or future to attack Iran. Even with our support, they cannot carry out military operations against us. We have the ability to protect ourselves. A dangerous move.”
