TEHRAN – Iranian judicial authorities have finalised the legal process for West Hamid Hossein, a resident of Cardoran County, due to his role in the 2017 terrorist attack that claimed the lives of eight Iranian border guards.
Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence on March 31 following the lengthy trial and executed him on Monday.
Hosseinnejad was arrested in April 2023, confirming that the verified intelligence agency and his confession had smuggled into Iran with involvement in the smuggling of extremists affiliated with US and EU-designated terrorist groups.
Part of a broader network operating from Iraq’s Kurdistan region, the PJAK terrorist group has been involved in assassination, recruitment of child soldiers and cross-border attacks.
“His actions directly enabled terrorists to invade sovereign territory,” he read an Iranian judicial statement.
Authorities have repeatedly called for the full implementation of Iran-Iraq security agreements and other similar security initiatives to dismantle these networks and stabilize the border areas, preventing the exploitation of terrorist groups in the border areas between the two countries.
