Tehran – Delegations of officials from the Ministry of the Environment, Foreign Affairs and Petroleum Ministry took part in the 2025 meeting of the political party meeting with the Treaty of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (2025 BRS police officers) that will be held in Geneva on April 28th and until May 9th.
“Make it invisible: sound management of chemicals and waste” is the theme of the event.
More than 1,600 participants, representing economic integration organizations in approximately 170 countries and regions, as well as 260 observer organizations attend the 2025 BRS officers. These legally binding environmental treaties play a crucial role in protecting human health and the environment from dangerous chemicals and waste.
A preparatory meeting was held on April 27th before the conference held at the Geneva International Conference Centre. Officers will focus on efforts to address harmful chemical and waste pollution that continue to pose a serious threat to human health and the environment.
The 17th meeting of the Basel Convention Conference (BC COP-17), the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Conference (RC COP-12), and the 12th meeting of the Stockholm Conference (SC COP-12) will also be held in Geneva in a row.
BC COP-17 will consider, among other things, waste classification and hazard characterization. Technical guidelines for a variety of waste including, but not limited to, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) Waste, Lead Waste Batteries, Pneumatic Tires, Electronic and Electric Waste (e-Waste), Waste including Nanomaterials, Mercury Waste, and Formation Waste.
RC COP-12 will review the list of 10 hazardous chemicals in Appendix III and will be subject to prior informed consent procedures under the Convention.
SC COP-12 considers recommendations from the scientific body and considers the inclusion of the following persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in Appendix A to the Convention for Removal: 1) Used in metalworking liquids as lubricants, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products, and coatings, sealants, sealants, rubber. 2) Chlorpyrifos insecticide widely used in agriculture.
