TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi will visit Pakistan and India to discuss bilateral relations, regional development and international issues, according to a foreign ministry spokesman who speaks to Press TV.
Araguchi’s trip begins in Pakistan on Monday, where he will meet with senior officials and address ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The visit comes amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, resulting from recent terrorist attacks in India-controlled Kashmir. India accused Pakistan of being involved in the April 22 attack, claiming 26 deaths have been denied as a result.
Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian has already called both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif to express his sadness in the terrorist attacks and emphasized the importance of a united front on the terrorist front. In his call with Modi, Pezeshkian condemned the attack and provided support in the fight against terrorism. He expressed concern over the growing tensions in his call with Sharif, highlighting Iran’s desire for regional stability.
More emphasising Iran’s role as a potential mediator, Foreign Minister Araguchi spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Ishaq Dar, expressing his willingness to promote debate between India and Pakistan.
Araguchi has made an official visit to India and continues his trip later in the week, where he will further promote dialogue and explore a path to cooperation in the region.
