Tehran – Iranian students taking part in the 25th edition of the Asian Physics Olympiad (APHO) 2025 were able to win a silver medal and six bronze medals.
APHO is the annual physics conference for high school students in Asia and the marine regions.
The competition, hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Dhaan, took place from May 4th to 12th. The event attracted around 240 students from 30 countries, including Iran, South Korea, India, Japan, China, Russia, Kazakhstan and Singapore.
Countries around the world send out teams of eight students and two leaders to represent them, and their physics knowledge and skills are tested in two tests. One practical laboratory and another theoretical writing.
Mirad Mohammadi won the silver medal, with bronze medals being won by Alia Zarabbi, Mohammad Hassan Gorabdar, Mohammad Medi Keshavarji, Mohammad Medi Akahoseini, Mohammad Hassan Sadekanyad and Ilia Kashaye.
APHO comes from the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO). APHO began in 2000 with 10 participating countries in Indonesia, and in 2024 its participating countries and regions grew to 24.
The event is a local platform for students to help passionate, talented, creative and analytical students solve complex and challenging problems in physics that are widely recognized in the scientific community.
The competition is divided into two sections consisting of one or two experiments, a five-hour theoretical test, and a five-hour laboratory experiment.

The Iranian student won two silver medals and two bronze medals, ranking fourth at the Turkey International Mathematics Olympics (TIMO) held in Antalya from April 17-22.
TIMO is an international event held for students from 3rd to 12th grade. The competition will take place in two rounds, including the reserve round and the global round.
Parnian Heydarian and Anusha Abdi won silver medals and the World Star Awards, while Fatemeh Mazini and Ava Dejagah won bronze medals.
Iranian students who attended several international Olympiades in 2024 won 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals and two bronze medals, ranking third in the world.
The US and China ranked first and second, respectively. Both South Korea and India ranked fourth, Isna reported.
The Iranian student won gold, two silver and bronze medals in the 36th IOI, ranking ninth in 96 countries. Egypt hosted the event in September 2024.
With an astonishing achievement, the Iranian student won five gold medals and ranked number one at the IOAA on the 17th, held in vassouras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 2024.
Over 250 students from 57 countries participated in the event.
Five Iranian students who participated in the 54th International Physics won gold and four silver medals, improving from 17th place in 2023 to 4th place.
The 54th edition of IPHO was held in Isfahan in July 2024.
A total of 200 elite students from 47 countries participated in the nine-day event, according to the IRNA.
Iran won one gold and three silver medals at the 56th Ginkgo held in Saudi Arabia in July. ICHO 2024 was held under the slogan “Connecting Buildings.”
