TEHRAN – Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian in a call on Saturday, praising Tehran’s “honest and brotherly diplomacy” during Pakistan’s military standoff with India earlier this month.
Sharif specifically praised Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut for praise for “timely diplomatic involvement” during his recent visit to Islamabad. After a brief stay in Pakistan, Araguchi headed to New Delhi where he conveyed his message. The two countries announced a ceasefire after May 10th after a four-day mutual airstrike.
“This initiative illustrates a vital step towards regional stability,” the PM said, adding that decades of hostility, including three wars, have failed to address core conflicts like Kashmir.
“Sustainable solutions require dialogue, not bullets,” he emphasized.
President Pezeshkian welcomed the ceasefire and repeatedly reiterated Iran’s stance: “War only deepens the wounds of the nation. Dialogue is the only way to peace.”
He reaffirms Tehran’s preparations to promote discussions between Pakistan and India, strengthen regional counterterrorism collaboration, calling terrorism a “shared challenge requiring brothers’ unity.”
Sharif proposed a future visit to Tehran to discuss bilateral ties and regional security. This is a move welcomed by Pezeschkian, who expressed his hope that the trip will “enhance cooperation with new heights.”
