Tehran – Sona Ahmadi, who is now the advisor to Iran’s foreign minister on women’s issues, has been officially appointed as the new consul general of Iran’s Islamic Republic in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Ahmadi set out for her post following a formal meeting with Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi, a customary involvement for senior diplomats before taking on missions abroad. Her appointment marks a notable addition to Iranian diplomatic corps, especially when she stepped into important posts in Central Asia.
Her new role comes as part of a broader remodel within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At a press conference on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei provided an update on the status of several diplomatic posts.
“As it is customary, many ambassador terminology and mission appointments heads are currently under review, some are in the final stages of confirmation and awaiting approval from the host country,” Baghhai said.
He particularly pointed out Ahmadi’s new mission, highlighting his current role as an advisor within the ministry, and noting her choice of Almati Post as one of the confirmed changes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that final appointments and further development updates will be announced soon as Iran continues to strive to strengthen its diplomatic footprint across the region.
