Tehran – Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), praises Iran’s efforts to serve refugees in a variety of fields, including health, education and employment.
The IRNA quotes Grandi as saying that the valuable services provided by Iran are truly valuable and admirable in the face of sanctions and some economic issues.
Officials made a statement during a meeting with Health Minister Mohammad Reza Zafarkandi. Officials met onlookers at the 78th World Health Conference (WHA).
Zafarkandi said it is an international responsibility to protect the health of refugees, not just the host state.
“Effective financial and operational strategies should be designed and strengthened globally to support refugee hosting countries, particularly Iran,” Zafarkandi emphasized.
WHA 2025 will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from May 19th to June 27th.
Focusing on the 2025 theme “World for One Health,” WHA78 has brought together representatives of high-level countries to address health challenges. This year’s gathering will be a crucial moment for global health as member countries face major changes in landscapes for global health and international development.
This year’s theme highlights the World Health Organization’s (WHO) enduring commitment to solidarity and equity, and emphasizes that even in unprecedented times, there should be an equal opportunity for everyone to lead healthy lives everywhere.
