TEHRAN – Iran highlighted its right to respond to the wave of Israeli attacks that assassinated top Tehran military officials and nuclear scientists early on Friday, adding that the US should also ow the outcome of the attack.
In a statement issued hours after the assassination took place, Iran’s foreign ministry said Israel had violated Iran’s sovereignty and the integrity of the state. “A Zionist regime’s attack on Iran constitutes a violation of paragraphs 2 and 4 of the UN Charter, and is a clear act of attack on Iran’s Islamic Republic,” the statement reads, and under Article 51 of Tehran, Tehran is entitled to respond to unclear easts of “appropriate” and to respond to illicit events.
The Foreign Office also pointed to the finger of US responsibility, saying that as a “primary supporter” of the Zionist administration, Washington also takes responsibility for the “dangerous consequences” of Israel’s “adventurism.”
American officials say they know Israel’s plans to attack Iran, but are not “involved” in the process. However, analysts believe they are claiming it is a fake, a view held by Iranian officials as well.
