TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Aragci said ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington “condemn Israel’s atrocities, but blames Israel’s military action on Iran for enabling Israeli military action against Iran.
In a Saturday call with EU foreign policy director Kaja Kallas, Araghchi strongly condemned Israel’s “blatant violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” referring to nuclear facilities and recent attacks on nuclear facilities and civilian areas that have led to the deaths of military personnel, academics and civilians, including women and children. He urged the international community to take “decisive action” and called for formal UN condemnation of Israeli aggression.
Aragut warned that Iran reserves “the legitimate right to take mutual action” to protect its sovereignty and national security.
Iranian officials also criticized a recent resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Council, supported by the United States and three European countries as “an excuse to justify Israel’s hostile actions” against Iran’s nuclear program. “Targeting peaceful nuclear facilities is a clear violation of international law,” Araguchi said, demanding that Israel be held responsible for what it described as an “unprecedented violation.”
In response, EU diplomat Karas expressed “deep concern” over the rising tensions and reiterated the bloc’s commitment to supporting the UN Security Council’s efforts to eliminate the situation and promote regional stability.
