TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci has denounced the West for supporting the explicit acts of attack by the Zionist regime, saying that such support examines Iran’s longstanding policies in defense and security.
“Israel’s Western support only strengthens our belief that no one can rely on us except ourselves and the military,” Araguchi told reporters on Sunday following a meeting with the head of a Tehran-based international organization. “Our security is protected by our army, and they fulfill this duty with strength and determination.”
In response to recent developments, Araguchi said the moves he pointed out constitute a violation of international law, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launching a widespread diplomatic campaign to condemn Israel’s attacks, particularly targeting strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
“I immediately sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and spoke to him over the phone. We requested an emergency session for the Security Council held. The positions expressed except for three or four countries were largely constructive.
He added that Iran also wrote to the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling for an emergency meeting of the IAEA Committee, scheduled for tomorrow. “We hope that this session will produce a resolution or at least a strong statement. The international community should not remain silent in the face of military strikes against nuclear facilities in other countries.
Aragut stressed that Iran aims to bring the power exhibited by its military to meaningful diplomatic outcomes. “We are proud to pursue this path. Our mission is now to transform the courage of our military into peace through diplomacy.”
Iran is also engaged in multilateral organizations. Araguchi has written to the Secretary-General of the Islamic Cooperation Agency (OIC) to request an extraordinary session, but a regular meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the OIC has already been set for the next Saturday when the issue is raised.
The Foreign Minister confirmed his discussion with the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), leading to formal condemnation of the attack.
“In the last 48 hours, I have spoken with more than 20 foreign ministers,” Araguchi said. “The president met with six or seven heads of state. The global and regional condemnations of the attack were broad and clear.
Araghchi sharply criticized the stances made by the US and three European countries during a UN Security Council session, accusing them of repeating past mistakes along with the invaders.
“It is surprising and extremely disappointing that these countries have failed to condemn the attacks in the face of blatant military strikes against nuclear facilities protected under international law.
“This is a historical error. Encouraging invaders to undermine international law will have serious consequences not only for Iran, but for global communities. The Zionist regime has already trampled on all the red lines since Gaza, and sadly, it is being rewarded with political cover-up from the West.”
“What’s happening in Gaza is not just the murder of Palestinians, but the death of human rights, international humanitarian law and the very norms that unite the world,” Araguchi said.
Working on Iran’s willingness to return to negotiations, Araguchi reaffirmed that diplomacy has never been off the table.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never abandoned diplomacy. Based on our principles, we are committed to a peaceful solution. Regarding nuclear issues, we are ready to remain firm about the rights of people, clarify our concerns, answer questions, and take steps to build trust in peaceful nuclear activities.”
He said recent consultations with the US followed this approach and signaled that if the attack was stopped, “the path to diplomacy will naturally resume.”
Regarding reactions from neighboring countries, Araguchi said almost all of them have adopted a corporate and support position.
“The Saudi foreign minister made the first call, followed by his Egyptian counterparts and others throughout the region. All of them strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s aggression and full support for Iran.
However, Araguchi also warned that the situation could become spiral. “The wars fired by the Zionist regime can easily be out of control, which is exactly what this regime hopes for. Fortunately, regional states are acting with a sense of awareness and responsibility to resist the push for Israel’s escalation.
