TEHRAN – British Foreign Minister David Lamy warned that military action alone will not neutralize Iran’s capabilities, highlighting the “significant dangers of the region” and the economic risks posed by the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Speaking in the House on Monday, Ramie informed lawmakers of Congress that Israel had “massive strikes” of Iranian targets, including military and nuclear sites, as well as key commanders and nuclear scientists. He said Iran retaliated with a ballistic missile fire and raised concerns about the wider regional conflict in Westminster.
Ramie confirmed that Britain was not involved in Israeli military operations. Reaffirming Britain’s unwavering support for Israel’s security, he reiterated the caution that “Iran’s capabilities cannot be put to an end.”
He also said that the government’s immediate priority is “the welfare of the British people.” He confirmed that crisis teams are being revitalized in London and in the region, urging British citizens in affected areas to register with the Foreign Office for updates and assistance. The rapid deployment team has been dispatched to Egypt and Jordan to help those seeking to leave Israel on the road amid ongoing airspace closures.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the minister stresses Britain’s long-standing commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through “broad diplomacy,” consistent with US President Donald Trump’s view that “negotiations are necessary and must lead to deals.”
Emphasizing the global economic implications, Ramie warned that “escalating conflicts pose realistic risks to the global economy.”
He then took a step back on both sides, urging him to show restraint, not being deeply drawn into a catastrophic conflict that no one could control.
