TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi rejected a statement on Thursday that Tehran’s suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency “eliminates the possibility of international surveillance of Iran’s nuclear programme.”
In a post on X, Araqhchi said Iran is “continuing to be committed to the NPT and its protection agreement.”
Following the illegal attacks on Israeli and the US Iranian nuclear sites, Iranian parliament has voted for a law that requires the government to suspend cooperation with the IAEA.
Araghchi said that, according to Congress’ ratification, it was “spurred by illegal attacks on nuclear facilities by Israel and the United States.” “The cooperation with the IAEA will be guided through Iran’s highest security board “for obvious safety and security reasons.”
Under the law, IAEA inspectors will not be permitted to visit Iran’s nuclear sites without permission from the SNSC, the official IRNA news agency reported.
On Wednesday, the German Foreign Ministry said Iranian law “sends a devastating message.” In response, Arakichi said, “I will send a truly ‘devastating message’.” “The Iranians were Germany’s open support for Israeli strikes against Iran, including protected nuclear facilities, and a violation of Germany’s commitment under the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.
Israel’s war with Iran began on June 13th, catching Iran by the off guard. Israel assassinated many top Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, on the first day of the late night strike, and attacked nuclear power plants in Fordau, Natanz and Isfahan. On June 22, the US joined Israel by bombarding three Iranian nuclear sites.
At least 935 Iranians have been killed and more than 5,640 injured in the 12-day illegal war with Iran, including 140 women and children.
Iran views IAEA director Rafael Grossi as a conspiracy in the US Israeli war with Iran, and said that a report of political motivation to the IAEA Governor’s Committee served as an excuse for an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
