Tehran – Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Association (IRCS) highlights the role of BRICS in promoting peace and sustainable development, saying that BRICS could become the standard bearer of a more human, empathetic and just world.
“Today, peace is not merely a lack of war. Peace is fundamentally related to justice, health, education and active public participation,” the IRCS website quotes Pirhossein Kolivand.
Officials made their remarks while addressing the BRICS Civil Council through video conference.
The council, also known as the People’s Council, was held on July 4th and 5th, hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Kolivand also emphasized the importance of increasing global solidarity to address challenges such as war, sanctions, poverty and environmental crises.
Officials continued to highlight the role of BRICS in shaping a more equitable future by submitting four strategic proposals. It is fair development by strengthening rescue systems and building resilience to crisis, promoting peaceful dialogue in multilateral diplomacy, sharing knowledge, focusing on human justice and lifting unilateral sanctions.
Kolivand has expressed preparation for IRCS to work with BRICS members and proposed launching a joint platform for sharing expertise and relief services within the framework of the Civil Council.
The BRICS Citizens’ Council, known as the “People’s Council”, was created following discussions held in Russia in July 2024 at the BRICS Citizens’ Forum and was approved by the leaders of the Kazan Declaration block.
Since then, each member state has begun the process of forming its own councils.
BRICS CIVIL FORUM is a platform that brings together representatives of BRICS Societies across a wide range of sectors. Its goal is to promote dialogue and collaboration in search of collaborative solutions to global and regional challenges. It seeks to strengthen the participation of popular movements and civil society in policy making and the promotion of sustainable development in the BRICS countries.
In 2025, the People’s Council of Brazil organized discussions through seven working groups (WGS) covering topics such as health, education, ecology, culture, finance, security, and institutional development.
Armenian Red Cross condemns violence against the Red Cross, red crescent moon
Last week, the IRCS urged the international community and the Red Cross society to condemn the violation of humanitarian law by the Zionist regime, demonstrated through killing IRCS members and targeting medical centres in a 12-day war with Iran.
In his letter, Koliband emphasized the need for moral courage and the need for coordinated efforts.
In response to his request, the Armenian Red Cross Society sent the IRC to strongly condemn any form of pressure or violence against Red Cross and Red Crescent officials.
The Armenians express their deepest sadness to the families and loved ones of all humanitarian workers who have fallen, and strongly condemn violence against those operating under the symbols of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, said in a statement.
“Humanitarian action is apolitical, secular, universal, universal of complex and sacred missions for the name of mankind and mankind, and all members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent are mandated to respect international humanitarian law, regardless of circumstances, war, disaster or other crises.
Nersisyan said, “Geneva practices and its additional protocols clearly define the protection of humanitarian workers in an age of armed conflict. Today, the world faces unprecedented and unfortunate challenges, so we continue to remind you of everything.
We reaffirm our commitment to moving forward with courage, compassion and unwavering dedication, and bow to the memories of those who have fallen. ”
