Tehran – In an exhibition of global Southern Solidarity, the expanded BRICS bloc representing 11 countries and almost half of humanity issued an overwhelming condemnation of US-Israel military aggression against Iran at the 17th Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
The declaration marked a turning point moment in Iranian diplomacy as Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut leveraged Tehran’s membership to advance his radical vision for peace in West Asia while advancing his radical vision for peace in West Asia.
The block’s final statement, released Sunday night, left no room for ambiguity. “We condemn Iran’s military strike against the Islamic Republic since June 13, 2025. This constitutes a violation of international law and the UN Charter. We further express our concern about the intentional attacks of civil infrastructure and peaceful nuclear disstry nuclear under the existing core of the intermittent law at the intermittent core of the international core.
The document emphasized that “nuclear protection measures, security and security must always be supported,” and called for the intervention of the UN Security Council.
Araguchi welcomed the declaration as a strategic victory. In X’s Monday post, he said: “Iran is grateful for the strong and clear condemnation by the BRICS. Here at the BRICS Summit, provinces account for 40% of the world’s GDP. The structural shifts that our planet is witnessing welcome the dawn of a new era.”
Strategic Diplomacy in Rio
The Brazilian chairman’s meeting held under the banner of “Strengthening global Southern cooperation for more inclusive and sustainable governance” that brought together Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran.
With six new members recognized last year, the bloc now represents almost half the world’s population and about a quarter of the world’s GDP.
Leaders describe BRICS as a platform that amplifies Southern voices, curbs unilateral Western sanctions, and accelerates reforms to the United Nations and Bretton Woods institutions.
Against the backdrop of systemic change and growing momentum for multilateral justice, Iran used the summit stage to implement a powerful legal and moral defense against US-Israel’s 12-day war with Iran, particularly illegal attacks on Iran’s civilian nuclear sites.
The main summit address of Iran’s top diplomats has submitted forensic dismantling of the legal pretext of the attack. “Legal rules and logic principles do not justify targeting peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA oversight on future military use speculation alone. Such attacks are absolutely prohibited under international law, including IAEA Resoluction 533 and resolution 487 of the UN Security Council.”
Araguchi also detailed the resilience of the Iranian state. “My people stood firm against this naked attack. The attackers were forced to halt the operation after heroic resistance by the military. They document Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In another speech at lunchtime, Araguchi smashed the framework of the two states. “When we talk about the Palestinian state, we mean we are nothing more than municipalities. We are entities that have no defined borders, sovereignty or authority. For 80 years, Iran has rejected this illusion.”
The UN in Iran in 1948 called out a vote against the division, saying, “Just Solution is a referendum with all former Jews, Christians and Muslims. This is not unrealistic.
Araguchi’s diplomatic blitz at the summit also included strategic talks between South African President Ramaphosa and Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim, pushing Iran’s global South Thailand.
He met Brazilian Foreign Minister as a host of the summit and held key sessions with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, Turkish Hakan Fidan and India’s Jaishankar to coordinate regional strategies. The final exchange with Minister Sindpuri expanded Iranian outreach across Asia.
The notable encounter was when Aragut met with anti-Zionist Jewish leader Rabbi Israel Dovid Weiss, expressing solidarity with Tehran and denounced Tel Aviv’s policy. The conference highlighted diverse international support for Iran’s position on Zionism.
“The New Global Order” and the Factors of Trump
Araghchi’s policy speech described BRICS as an antidote to Western hegemony. “We gather not only as nations, but as architects of a new global order.
His suggestions include:
– BRICS legal mechanisms to combat unilateral sanctions
– Expanding funding for new development bank infrastructure
– Joint AI Research Center to Prevent “Technical Apartheid”
– Energy cooperation leveraging Iran’s strategic position
Summit unfolded under the threat of President Donald Trump: “Country in line with BRICS’s anti-American policies faces 10% tariffs.”
BRICS collectively condemned “unilateral tariffs that contradict the WTO rules,” but the Kremlin claimed the bloc would target third countries.
The words of Araguchi’s closing resonated as the summit was closed in 2026 with a plan to host India. “Brick must defend international law and multilateralism as a global South voice, a historic moment for human civilization.
