Tehran – The 6th International and 14th National Conference on Biotechnology is scheduled to take place in Tehran from October 22nd to 24th.
Shahid Beheshti University will host a three-day event. This will be retained on the theme of “biotechnology,” a key driver of the development of the modern economy, which has a positive impact on health, agriculture and industry,” the IRNA reported.
The event will serve as a platform for exchanging the latest scientific and technological outcomes, enhancing interactions between researchers and policymakers, promoting the pivotal role of biotechnology in addressing environmental, industrial, agriculture, health and food challenges, and promoting the bioeconomics.
It also provides the opportunity to network between nations and the world’s scientific and industrial communities to develop biotechnology science and bioeconomics.
Congress also aims to lay the foundation for bringing together science, industry and markets by highlighting the importance of fostering modern strategic biotechnology, such as genetic engineering, genome editing, synthetic biology, OMICS technology, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence. It also reviews the latest research findings, shares expertise, introduces investment opportunities, and promotes the path to commercialization.
Specialist meetings between professors and students, and educational workshops are one of the other programs held on the sidelines of the event.
Advancements in the biotechnology field over the past decades have sparked surprises and fierce competition among businesses and countries.
Decades of rigorous research and development, as well as a meticulous, comprehensive strategic plan, have contributed to important breakthroughs in new therapies, including gene therapy for a variety of diseases and cancers.
These treatments often cost between 1 million and millions of dollars per patient. Next Generation Sequence (NGS) technology continues to evolve every day, encouraging competitive races to improve accuracy, increase throughput and reduce costs. This dynamic catalyzes the development of innovative methodologies, and these technologies practice standard practices in laboratories and institutions around the world.
Iran’s biotechnology products target 35 countries
Over the past Iranian years (March 2024 – March 2025), biotechnology products have been exported to 35 countries around the world, up from the 33 countries the previous year.
The pharmaceutical biotech industry covers 60% of the country’s pharmaceutical exports, saving approximately $2 billion in foreign currency each year.
Officials made a statement on Tuesday, reporting that the fourth international conference and exhibition on Iran’s medical biotechnology products and related industries (Iran’s bio) will be held at the Olympic Hotel in Tehran.
Currently, the country produces 40 of the 150 pharmaceutical biotechnology products manufactured worldwide, he said, adding that the results have been happening for 30 years.
Iran Bio is aiming to support domestic manufacturers by providing opportunities for information and technology transfer, increasing synergies between researchers, experts and active members, presenting the latest achievements of biotechnology and expanding markets and export opportunities.
