TEHRAN – Iran will not reintroduce it into nuclear negotiations unless diplomatic effectiveness is guaranteed, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghhai warned on Monday that it would politicize the concept of dialogue and reaffirm its commitment to protecting its national interests through both diplomatic and military instruments.
“We will not be involved in such consultations unless we are confident in the effectiveness of diplomacy and the negotiation process,” Baguei said at a weekly press conference in Tehran.
Rejecting false binary “no negotiation or negotiation,” Baguey stressed that diplomacy should not be condemned or discredited.
“Diplomacy is not a performance stage. It is a strategic tool and opportunity, and is not permitted to take away the country, particularly as a way to express Iran’s position, protect its interests, and secure its national rights,” he said.
He added that the country’s diplomacy equipment must also wisely use diplomacy to promote the same national goal, just as Iranian troops are committed to protecting the country with strength.
“The international community’s silence over Gaza’s atrocities is shocking.”
Baghey also condemned Israeli airstrikes on Gaza’s humanitarian areas and condemned the international community’s silence over ongoing atrocities.
“The absolute immunity of genocide in Gaza is the main reason for the continued crime of the Zionist regime,” he said. “For the past two years we have witnessed unprecedented genocide. Every state has an obligation to take action.”
“The snapback mechanism has no legal or moral legitimacy.”
Turning to the potential revitalization of the so-called snapback sanctions mechanism under UN Security Council resolution 2231, Baguei firmly rejected the idea.
“There is no legal or political basis for snapback mechanisms. Today, more than ever, calling this mechanism lacks legal or ethical justification. It is simply a politicized tool that will be misused from within resolution 2231,” he said.
Baghaei stressed that Iran continued to be considered a member of the JCPOA itself, reducing its commitment in response to the US withdrawal and continuing violations by European signatories.
“Just a year after the US withdrawal, Iran began to reduce its commitment. However, the European political parties themselves violated the agreement and failed to fulfill their obligations. They now have no position to call any mechanisms.”
He added that attempts to stimulate snapbacks in the wake of Israel’s military strike against Iran are politically motivated and unfair.
“This is a political act simply aimed at facing Iran, and we will respond appropriately. The US has imposed a layer of sanctions on Iran, but the Iranian people have shown resilience in the face of pressure.”
“Strategic dialogue between Russia and China is underway”
Regarding Russia’s relationship with China, Baguei emphasized continued strategic cooperation. “We are active JCPOA members and maintain friendly relations and strategic partnerships with both countries, which have played a consistently constructive role. We do not have any specific proposals at this time, but we are always expressing that we are ready to resolve the nuclear issue.”
He said Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi’s recent trip to China provided an important opportunity for coordination and dialogue, as Iran attended the BRICS summit.
“Local mediation efforts will continue and there will be no date for our discussion.”
Baghaei acknowledged the ongoing regional and international mediation efforts aimed at reviving negotiations between Iran and the United States, particularly in light of rising tensions after the Israeli invasion.
“In the last three or four years, some friendly countries in this region and both have worked to help resolve nuclear issues. Given the current tensions in the region, it’s natural that the countries involved are pursuing mediation again.”
However, he made it clear that there is no time or venue set for a potential meeting between Araguchi and the EU’s signature Enrique Mora.
“Iran calls for constructive use of diplomacy and rejects aggression.”
Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, warning of the consequences of Western inaction.
“Just as our military defends the nation with strength, our diplomats must adopt diplomacy and realize the national interest. Diplomacy must be effective and not symbolic. We negotiated in good faith, but the Zionist administration, working with the United States, launched an attack just before our sixth round talk.”
“Congress requires documents for the attack on the US Israeli US.”
Regarding the new Congressional directive to document Israel and the US crimes against Iran, Baghhai said: “The parliamentary resolutions are binding, and from the moment the attack began, we began a focused diplomatic effort.
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent communications to international organizations and shared them with the media.
“The European response to Iran’s defensive actions: “hypocrisy”
Baghaei criticized a joint statement by France, Britain and Germany that denounced Iran’s retaliatory strike against Qatar’s Al-udeid Air Force Base.
“It is a high degree of hypocrisy for these three states to support the Zionist regime’s attacks and question Iran’s legitimate self-defense rights. Our actions against the Aldead were defensive and legal. We will continue to pursue positive relationships with our neighbouring countries.”
“Part of the continued diplomacy of letters to FM Araghchi’s counterparts.”
Finally, Baghaei confirmed that FM Araghchi had sent letters to numerous foreigners as part of a broader diplomatic campaign launched following the recent attacks by the Zionist regime.
“These letters are based on diplomatic initiatives that began the day after the attack. We have clearly expressed our position and reminded the international community of our responsibility to condemn violations of international law. This is a collective duty and we will continue to strive.”
