TEHRAN – The White House has announced that the US remains open to potential dialogue with Iran, despite Tehran and its European counterparts preparing for negotiations this Friday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said he spoke to reporters on Monday. However, she said there is no scheduled date for such negotiations yet.
Before June 13, Tehran and Washington were engaged in five rounds of indirect negotiations on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. The talks promoted by the Omani sultan were expected to continue the sixth round in Muscat on June 15th. However, the session was cancelled after the Israeli regime launched a massive, unprovocative attack on Iran’s territory.
The attack, which targeted senior Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians, marked a serious escalation of regional tensions.
Then, on June 22, the United States officially took part in the conflict by carrying out airstrikes at three Iranian nuclear facilities born in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan in a clear violation of the UN Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Iran has repeatedly emphasized that its nuclear activities are completely peaceful and are being carried out under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
