TEHRAN – Iran’s foreign ministry has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli war in Gaza, denounced the regime’s “genocide brutality” and the systematic hunger of civilians.
In a statement released Tuesday, the ministry issued deep warnings about the rapidly worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, with the crisis attributed to “terrifying crimes” committed by Israel. The Israeli regime accused them of using hunger as a weapon in war, continuing massive attacks on civilian regions and aid distribution centres.
“The ongoing siege, artillery fire at shelters, and targeting the food and water distribution points — a death trap for hungry civilians — is undeniable evidence of the atrocities of Israel’s apartheid regime and the negligence of international supporters,” the statement said.
Citing a recent report, the ministry said more than 1,000 Palestinians were killed while waiting at the food line, and another 600 people died of starvation.
The statement follows growing international concerns about the situation in Gaza. On Tuesday alone, at least 15 Palestinians (including four children) reportedly died of starvation, but Israeli airstrikes killed an additional 81 people.
Referring to the UN assessment, the Iranian ministry noted that 90% of Gaza are now uninhabitable and that over 1.2 million people face life-threatening food insecurity.
The Foreign Ministry also criticized the UN Security Council’s paralysis and condemned the persive’s obstruction to hamper international efforts to end the war. The statement highlighted what was called a deliberation of the health system in Gaza, a complete food and medicine blockade for over five months, and what was called a deliberate campaign to erase the Palestinian population.
“The plan to annihilate the Palestinians has been executed in the most frightening form by some of the most ruthless criminals in modern history,” the ministry said.
Tehran has called on the international community, including the UN Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF to urgently intervene and halt the suffering.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the Israeli war has killed at least 59,106 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and has injured more than 142,500 since October 2023.
