TEHRAN – A total of 123 earthquakes were recorded nationwide in the week between June 19th and July 25th, according to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran.
Statistically, there are 110 earthquakes with a size less than 3. An 11 earthquake, between 3 and 4 sizes. One earthquake of size between 4 and 5, and one earthquake caused 5 and 6 earthquakes, the IRNA reported.
Of the total, the Richter scale that occurred in Semnan on June 20th was 5.1.
Of the states of the country, 24-year-old Semnan experienced the most of the earthquakes following Khorasan Razavi and Isfahan, accompanied by 16 and 12 earthquakes, respectively.
During the same period, one earthquake struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in Eastern Azarbaijan, Aldabil, Ilam, Zanjan, Sistan Balchestan, Kazbin, Kordestan, Kordestan, Korgirue Boilamad, and Gilan provinces.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of the world’s earthquakes, but more than 6% of the world’s earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iran’s earthquakes.
