TEHRAN – Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian emphasized the deep-rooted brotherhood between Iran and Pakistan during his official visit to Islamabad, saying that the relationship goes far beyond mere geographical proximity.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Islamabad Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif on Sunday, Pezeshkian highlighted the shared commitment of the two countries to regional stability, economic cooperation and Islamic unity amid ongoing regional challenges.
President Pezeschkian emphasized that regional peace and security are fundamentally interconnected, noting that “calm and stability are an essential prerequisite for economic growth and cross-border cooperation.” He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to prioritizing relationships with his neighbors, adding that “the relationship with Pakistan is not only based on geography, but also on brotherhood.”
He also expressed his deep gratitude to Pakistan for his unwavering support during the recent 12-day war, launched by Israel and supported by the US, describing Islamabad solidarity as a strong reflection of close brotherhood and brotherhood relations between the two countries.
Pezeshkian praised the unified attitude adopted by the Pakistani government, parliament, political parties, scholars and the public. “Their position was deeply encouraging and a sign of a lasting bond between our people,” he said.
On June 13, Israel launched a surprising military attack on Iran, claiming the lives of at least 1,064 individuals, including senior officials, nuclear scientists and civilians. The US took part in the attack by attacking three nuclear facilities in Iran. This is what Tehran accused of as a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces conducted a coordinated retaliation operation targeting both Israeli and the US positions. The campaign had halted hostilities by June 24th.
The two leaders also condemned Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza and wider actions across Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. Pezeshkian emphasized the need for stronger and more coordinated actions among regional and Muslim countries to counter Israel’s aggressive and unstable policies.
He highlighted the urgent need for unified regional and international action against Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza.
“Strengthening cooperation between Islamic countries is key to preventing further attacks by the Israeli regime,” Pezeshkian said. “By expanding the comprehensive ties between Iran and Pakistan, we can successfully create a successful example of regional cooperation and Muslim unity.”
Pezeshkian describes Israel’s continued attacks as a harsh warning to the Islamic world and the global community, highlighting the need for a coordinated response to the regime’s violation of international law.
In pursuit of an end to the double standards in global diplomacy, the Iranian president urged international organizations, particularly the UN Security Council, to take decisive action against sovereignty, war crimes and violations of civil genocide.
President Pezeshkian also thanked Pakistani leaders for the warm hospitality and continued high-level consultations, extending his invitation to Prime Minister Sharif for his visit to Tehran in the near future.
The Iranian president arrived in Islamabad on Saturday and made an official two-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sharif.
On Sunday, the two countries signed 12 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) covering a variety of areas including trade, science, technology, agriculture, tourism, transportation and transportation, judicial cooperation, cultural heritage and economic development.
The agreement aims to deepen bilateral relations by promoting knowledge exchange, expanding commercial capabilities, strengthening people-people engagement, and strengthening regional cooperation.
Pezeshkian’s visit began in Lahore, where he paid tribute to Pakistani national poet Alama Muhammad Iqbal and to an influential figure in Iran-Pakistan’s intellectual relations. He then traveled to Islamabad for a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif.
