Tehran – Iran’s Red Crescent Association (IRCS) has condemned airstrikes at the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent Association in Khan Yunis, Gaza by Israeli forces.
“Emergency: One Palestinian Red Crescent Association (PRCS) staff was killed and three other people were injured after Israeli forces targeted the headquarters of the Association of Khan Yunis, setting a fire on the first floor of the building,” PRCS announced in a post on X on Sunday.
Following the attack, IRCS head Pirhossein Kolivand, in his message to PRCS’ President Younis al-Khatib, strongly condemns the organization’s intentional targeting, calling it immoral.
The full IRCS message is read as follows:
“Deep sadness and regret have received news of the airstrike at the headquarters of Khan Eyns’ Palestinian Red Crescent Association, resulting in martial and injury to some of the dedicated relief workers in your respected organization.
We strongly condemn this illegal and immoral act, while extending our sincere pity and sympathy to our bereaved families, your fellow humanitarian colleagues, and the resilient Palestinians.
Performing life-saving missions while targeting relief and medical centres and humanitarian personnel constitutes a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention and a prominent violation of principles of neutrality, independence and protection of humanitarian operations during armed conflict. Such crimes should not be unanswered or investigated by the international community. Iran’s Red Crescent Association declares that you are fully in solidarity with your national association and ready to coordinate legal follow-up, humanitarian assistance, and local or international action. ”
Officials ended the letter, hoping for a quick recovery for the injured.
Red Crescent Association approves IRCS calls to help Gaza
The Red Crescent Associations in Russia, Norway, Albania, Austria, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Qatar support the Iranian Red Crescent Association’s call to take immediate action to deal with Gaza’s devastating human crisis.
Koliband wrote to the World Health Organization and the Red Crescent Association on July 26, urgently calling for “to promote the promotion of medicine and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” and took immediate steps to advocate for those affected by Gaza.
Addressing his counterparts of the Red Crescent Association through his letter entitled “A Call for Emergency Action: Advocate for Immediate Government Intervention to Address the Humanitarian Catastrophe of Gaza,” he called for immediate action to be taken to defend those affected by Gaza.
The IRCS called on the public to urgently issue official statements, actively attract the government and apply strong diplomatic pressure to stop all hostility and violence that affects Gaza’s civilians and humanitarian activities. Promoting unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and health services. Hold the perpetrators accountable and end their immunity against international humanitarian law.
