TEHRAN – A total of 163 earthquakes were recorded nationwide in the week from July 26th to August 1st, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics.
Statistically, there are 113 earthquakes with a size less than 3. Earthquakes of 41, between 3 and 4. According to the IRNA, nine earthquakes occurring in the country, ranging from 4 to 5.
Of the total, one is 4.6 on the Richter scale, which occurred on July 28th in the province of Buchere.
Of the states of the country, the 47-year-old Bucher had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by Semnan with 19 earthquakes.
During the same period, one earthquake struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in Eastern Azalbaijan, West Azalbaijan, Alborz, Ilam, Zanjan, Kazbin, Kermansha or Laurensun.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
