TEHRAN – Iranian security forces stopped a terrorist attack in the southeastern city of Saraban early Sunday morning, killing three armed assailants and capturing four people in counter-terrorism.
The attack occurred during routine patrols by Saravan’s law enforcement squads, according to a statement released by Sistan and the Baluchestan Police Information Center. The patrol was ambushed by armed extremists, what the statement described as a “co-disordered” attack.
In the subsequent clash, the police force responded decisively, neutralising the three attackers and pursuing the remaining elements.
Local police commander Brigadier Mohamadreza Eshaki confirmed the details of the operation.
“Following the armed conflict in Saravan, our security plans were quickly activated. Our army eliminated three terrorists and confiscated the Kalashniko Flyful, a handgun with ammunition, and two vehicles used by the attacker,” he said. Eshaqi also pointed out that four suspects were captured during the pursuit operation.
Tragically, one officer (identified as Khodadad Baqeri) was martial in his duties. Another person was injured and was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
The attackers are believed to be partnering with Jaish Al-Adl (known in Iran as Jaish Al-Zulm), a terrorist group known for its violent operations in Iran’s southeastern border region.
As Jundullah’s successor, Jaish Al-Adl is associated with many armed attacks across the region as he is responsible for Iranian security forces in 2010.
The organisation, which operates primarily in Sistan and Balchestan, has targeted both civilians and security personnel in dozens of deadly attacks. Over the past 20 years, the group has advocated hundreds of Iranian life, first as Jundullah and, under a later rebranded identity.
More recently, Jaish Al-Adl has argued responsibility for the July 26 attack on mortar and hand-ren bullets. A court in Zahedan killed six civilians, including a mother and infant, and injured 22 people.
Iranian officials say the group has received support from foreign intelligence reporting agencies, particularly focusing on the Israeli regime’s involvement in supporting destabilizing activities.
Sistan and Balkestan remain strategic and vulnerable regions within Iran’s national security environment.
Proximity to international drug trafficking routes and exposure to terrorist invasions will be the focus of Tehran’s counterterrorism efforts.
Despite these challenges, Iranian security forces have demonstrated resilience and tactical advantage, blocking most of cross-border invasions and maintaining relative stability.
