Tehran – Iran’s first vice president, Mohammad Reza Alev, emphasizes that the Caucasus and Central Asian countries must resolve their own conflicts without external intervention, and that foreign involvement will undermine regional stability.
Speaking on Friday with Russian Prime Minister Mishas Mischin, a bystander at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Prime Minister Summit in Kyrgyzstan’s Cholpon Ata, Iran’s strategic policy rejects the existence of external forces in regional geopolitics.
“The Caucasus and all countries in the Central Asia can coexist in peace, stability and security without foreign interference,” he said.
Alev says that the regional nations can fully solve their challenges, consistent with Russia’s unilateral opposition to Iran’s position, and that the regional nations can completely resolve them. He welcomed the initiative aimed at alleviating tensions and promoting cooperation among neighbors.
On the nuclear issue, Aleph said Iran consistently wanted dialogue and trust on peaceful programs, but he accused the Western states of politicizing the issue. He dismisses threats from Britain, France and Germany, sparks a UN “snapback” mechanism, saying they have no legal right to do so, effectively supporting Washington’s “causeless” stance in consultations.
The Russian Prime Minister emphasized on his part that trade and economic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran has increased significantly in recent years.
“The treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a step towards integrating Caucasus peace.”
Speaking to the Prime Minister of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the Korpon-Ata city of Kyrgyzstan resort on Friday, Aleph welcomed the August 8 peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, calling it a step towards integrating peace and stability in the Caucasus.
“Iran continues to emphasize solidarity and the preservation of the territorial integrity of the state, and believes that external intervention will not bring lasting security to the region,” he said.
“The US-Israel attack took place in the silence of the UN Security Council.”
Aleph denounced the UN Security Council for failing to act in response to a joint US-Israel attack on Iranian territory in June, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
He praised the bloc’s “constructive and encouraging” position during what was called a 12-day imposed war against the Islamic Republic.
“This was during the time of witnessing the UN Security Council’s inaction on international law and the Zionist administration and the serious violation of the UN Charter by the United Nations,” Aref said.
He condemned the attack as a serious violation of international norms, citing attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, targeting civilian killings, “illegal and criminal operations” against military personnel across mission areas, and assassinations of university professors. “The bloodshed of women, children and the public has further clarified its purpose to spread anxiety in the Zionist regime areas,” he added.
On June 13, the Israeli regime, attacked by the United States, interpreted the attacks, assassinating senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, and killing hundreds of civilians. The United States also bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in what is known as a “significant violation” of international law.
In retaliation, Iranian forces attacked strategic military and industrial sites across the occupying territories, targeting Al Udeid Air Force Base in Qatar, the largest US military facility in West Asia. To his surprise, Tel Aviv halted its operation on June 24th and accepted a one-sided US-brokered ceasefire.
The attacks came against the backdrop of the Israeli war with Gaza, which has killed many Palestinians, women and children, since October 2023.
“Israel’s actions in Gaza are crimes against humanity and the continuation of genocide.”
The Vice President also highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and accused Israel of committing crimes against humanity through the ongoing war.
“The world is now witnessing the actions of the Zionist regime to impose hunger and hunger on the oppressed people of Gaza, and even the decision to occupy it entirely,” Aleph said. “This is a clear example of crime against humanity and the continuation of genocide.”
Reaffirming his firm opposition to such conduct in Iran, he urged all governments to meet their “shared collective responsibility” to halt the violation of international humanitarian law, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
