TEHRAN – General Razzani Mahwana, commander of the South African Defence Forces (SANDF), visited Iran’s elite 65th Rapid Reaction Brigade (Node Brigade) on Thursday, praised its capabilities during a tour in Tehran, highlighting military ties between the two falsehoods.
Along with an Iranian commander, Mahwanya observed field exercises and tactical demonstrations showing the unit’s operational preparation.
The Army website reported that the general, who described the brigade’s capabilities as “exceptional and unique,” added that he had praised its “innovative methods” and humanitarian initiative.
Mahwana, directly resembles South Africa’s history, condemned the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza. He further praised Iran’s army for “humanitarian efforts for stunning and peace.”
Brigadier General Karim Chesh, deputy commander of the Iranian Army’s ground forces, reciprocated solidarity during his visit.
He emphasized Iran’s cross-border disaster relief efforts as an example of “cross-border humanitarian acts,” saying, “The Islamic Republic is sincerely welcoming military cooperation with friendly countries under an international framework to promote global peace and stability.”
The 65th Brigade demonstrations include live fire drills and counter-terrorism simulations, highlighting Iran’s focus on preparing for a rapid response.
The tour followed high-level consultations between Mahwanya and Iranian military leaders during a South African commander’s visit to Tehran.
Both sides emphasized the consistency of Palestinian shared anti-colonial principles in discussions on Tuesday.
General Khatami pointed to South Africa’s “courageous” International Court of Justice (ICJ) case against Israel, and General Moussabi provided Iran’s anti-terrorism expertise and defense industry capabilities for bilateral cooperation.
General Mahwanya confirmed the partnership, citing Iran’s historical support for apartheid.
He also met with Iran’s Minister of Defense Aziz Nasirzadeh. There, the pair emphasized longstanding friendly ties, shared opposition to injustice and unilateral relations, and the importance of strong defence cooperation and solidarity through Bliss, sharing integrity in condemning the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza.
