Tehran – Shanghai University Rankings 2025 has placed six Iranian universities among the top 1,000 institutions in the world since 9 in 2024.
Shanghairanking Consultancy has released the 2025 World University (ARWU) Academic Rankings. Since 2003, ARWU has published the world’s top universities annually based on transparent methodologies and objective third-party data.
It is a precursor to the rankings of global universities and is recognized as the most reliable. Over 2,500 institutions have been scrutinized this year, with 1,000 best universities published in the world.
Tehran University School of Medicine and Tehran University are one of the top 500 universities around the world and rank between 401 and 500 worldwide. Tarbiat Modares University ranks between 701 and 800.
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Sharif Institute of Technology rank 801-900. Iranian Medical University ranks between 901 and 1000.
Using six objective indicators, Arwu ranks universities around the world, including the number of graduates and staff who have won the Nobel Prize and Fields Medal, the number of highly cited researchers selected by clarivate, the number of articles published in the journals of nature and science, the scientific citation index expanded to the scientific citation index, and the science citation index based on science performance.
Harvard University is at the top of its 23rd year ranking list, followed by Stanford and MIT. The other top ten universities are Cambridge (fourth), Berkeley (fiveth), Oxford (no. 6), Princeton (no. 7), Columbia (no. 8), Caltech (no. 9) and Chicago (no. 10).
Recent Rankings
The July edition of the Webometrics World rankings includes 64 medical universities in Iran, which remain the same as the January edition, of which 11 have made progress in rankings compared to the January edition.
Tehran University of Medicine (485) is the only university ranked among the top 500 institutions in the world, Mehr news agency reported.
Among the universities in Iran, Mazandaran Medical University, Kermansha University School of Medicine and Yazd University Medical University improved their rankings with positions 1002, 961 and 948, respectively.
Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, Urmia University of Medical Sciences, ILAM University of Medical Sciences, Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Albors University of Medicine, Kordestan University of Medicine, Gonabad University of Medical Sciences, and Malage University of Medicine, may be other universities.
Times Higher Education (The) includes 34 Iranian universities among the top universities pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 33 universities in 2024.
The Iranian School of Medicine, which has the Global Rankings 301-400, is the first in the country to be placed.
Alzahra University, Kerman University of Medical Sciences and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (ranked 401-600) will be second in the list.
Iran’s University of Medical Sciences ranks 48th in terms of health and well-being and reduction inequality, quality education goals.
Alzara University and Carman University Medical University rank 85th and 89th in gender equality, respectively.
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences ranks 30th in Health and Happiness.
Amilkavir Institute of Technology and Shahid Beheshti University are ranked 46th and 60th in industry, innovation and infrastructure.
The 22nd edition of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) in 2026, unchanged from the 2025 rankings, placing nine Iranian universities among the world’s top institutes.
Tehran University, with a global ranking of 322, is the first Iranian university ranked.
Sharif University of Technology (Rankings 375) and Amilkavir University of Technology (456) are located in the second and third positions.
The Iranian University of Science and Technology (496), Isfahan Institute of Technology (571), Tabriz University (578), Shiraz University (701-710), Shahid Beshti University (741-750), and Feldousi University Mashhad University (951-1000) are the other top universities included in the Rand of the year.
Round University Ranking (RUR) 2025 has placed 36 Iranian universities among the top universities in the world from 32 universities in 2024.
With a global ranking of 93, the University of Islamic Azad is the first to be placed in the country.
