Biotechnology plays a key role in SDGs
Biotechnology, as one of the highly promising scientific disciplines, plays a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as it directly or indirectly holds a 60% share of targets related to life science and its applications.
Sustainable development highlights practical ways to live in a healthier, more sustainable and just world. Sustainable development means building a balance between economic progress, social welfare and environmental protection in a way that meets the needs of current generations while maintaining resources for future generations.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. According to the United Nations website, the global partnership focuses on 17 sustainable development goals (development and development) calling for urgent action by all countries.
They recognize that they must work with strategies to end poverty and other deprivation, improve health and education, reduce inequality, and promote economic growth.
Biotechnology offers innovative solutions to address environmental challenges and improve the quality of human life.
Using diagnostic kits, it uses effective and affordable medicines and vaccines to improve disease early detection, environmental pollution, production of non-pesticide pests, and public health, and purifies contaminated water with the help of bacteria to ensure access to safe water, and is one of the applications of environmentally friendly biological development.
It is not simply the responsibility of the government or businesses to achieve sustainable goals. Individuals also play an important role by making wise choices and changing habits. At the laboratory, these options include the separation of biological, chemical, and general waste, the use of recyclable and compostable laboratory kits and materials, using cellular or biological calculation methods instead of animal experiments, and designing experiments with minimal raw materials and waste production.
Sustainable development means taking small steps to create a brighter future, less difficult, and less difficult.
Iran’s biotechnology products target 35 countries
Over the past Iranian years (March 2024 – March 2025), biotechnology products have been exported to 35 countries around the world, up from the 33 countries the previous year.
The pharmaceutical biotech industry covers 60% of the country’s pharmaceutical exports, saving approximately $2 billion in foreign currency each year.
Authorities made comments in response to the fourth international conference and exhibition on Iran’s medical biotechnology products and related industries (Iran’s bio), and it was held at the Olympic Hotel in Tehran from February 4th to 6th, the IRNA reported.
Currently, the country produces 40 of the 150 pharmaceutical biotechnology products manufactured worldwide, he said, adding that the results have been happening for 30 years.
Iran Bio is aiming to support domestic manufacturers by providing opportunities for information and technology transfer, increasing synergies between researchers, experts and active members, presenting the latest achievements of biotechnology and expanding markets and export opportunities.
