Tehran – Since taking office last year in the current administration, more than 2,700 female managers have been appointed in the country as deputy minister, vice-general, vice-director, governor, district governor and head of the research institute.
“President Maud Pezeschkian’s administration has always emphasized the importance of unifying the people and empowering women. As a result, for the first time we have a Sunni female governor in the country.”
Officials went on to say that over the past year efforts have been made to identify and address issues that are harmful to women, such as bills against women, hijabs and women riding motorcycles. Additionally, the vice president of women and family provides loans and other facilities for childbirth.
“I believe that women’s involvement in their top management and decision-making positions is their right and key to the development of the country.
My goal is to increase the share of women in the country’s management positions based on meritocracy and justice.
I recognize the right to political participation of women and promote the status of women’s issues in the administration,” President Masuud Pezeschkian said during his campaign.
Women’s economic and social empowerment
Speaking to the Asia-Pacific Ministers Conference in Bangkok in 2024, Behrouz-Azar said the current administration focuses on empowering women in social and economic spheres, and improving access to social services and facilities by implementing specific national programs.
“Iran has always focused on programs that empower women, especially women who are family heads. Economically and socially, the actions taken by the state aimed to promote women’s status by observing the constitutional principles and Islamic teaching principles.”
Referring to Iran’s incredible achievements in education, health, science, technology and entrepreneurship, she highlighted the prominent role of Iranian women in these fields.
Officials further said the Seventh National Development Plan highlights the need to overcome barriers to professional development for women. Therefore, the current administration is supporting women’s entrepreneurship and home-based businesses on its agenda, despite unfair sanctions.
To address a roundtable focused on “promoting economic empowerment of women through employment, decent work, social protection and entrepreneurship,” Fakhr Al-Sadat Fatemi, adviser to the vice president of women and families, proposed three ways to promote women’s empowerment in various fields.
